You probably have a million experiences with food to tell me how that just isn’t true.
Food is great. Food is necessary. Food is yummy. Food is food.
Have you ever noticed a shift in your likability for a certain food item?
I used to love bananas! They’re tasty, just the right amount of sweet, and an easy snack.
And then one day, it hit me. I do NOT like bananas.
In fact, I really can’t even stand the smell of bananas anymore.
I have to leave my desk at work if people are eating a banana. (And yes I know it sounds ridiculous, but I really don’t like bananas!)
But, funnily enough, food is neutral. That banana is neither good or bad. It just is.
Just like desserts aren’t bad. And vegetables aren’t good. They just are.
Food doesn’t make you feel better.
Food doesn’t make you feel worse.
Food is neutral.
Thinking food is anything but neutral has you attached or detached from food.
Thinking about food affects your relationship with food.
Your relationship with food affects your weight.
Your weight affects how you feel about yourself.
How you feel about yourself affects how you show up in the world.
Do you see the importance of paying attention to how you see food?
Once you understand this, your relationship with food will change entirely.
Once you understand this, then you get to decide on purpose how you will think about food, and in effect, how you show up in the world.
At your next meal, take a look at your food and consider that it’s just food. Not good food, not bad food, just food.
